The strange yellow frosted marble
Die ungewöhnliche gelbe "Frost"-Murmel

Some years ago a marble collector from Germany sent me these pictures of a marble she has in her collection and asked for help to identify it:

Vor ein paar Jahren hat mir eine Sammlerin aus Deutschland diese Bilder zugeschickt mit der Bitte, diese Murmel zu identifizieren:

The marble type is obviously an English-colored Joseph's Coat but what about the surface ? About 80% of the marble's surface is somehow "frosted". And the clear part of the surface is not straight but follows the twist, so it is not possible that the marble was exposed to acid or otherwise damaged on purpose. Therefore I assume the damage to the glass had to have been there before the marble was actually made. I just can't think of any other possibility.

Es handelt sich offensichtlich um eine "English-colored" Joseph's Coat Murmel. Aber was ist mit der Oberfläche ? Zirka 80% der Murmel sind irgendwie "frostig"/trüb. Doch der klare, gut erhaltene Teil verläuft nicht gerade sondern folgt der Drehung und deshalb ist es nicht möglich, dass die Murmel z.B. Säure ausgesetzt war oder irgendwie absichtlich beschädigt wurde. Aus diesem Grund muss ich davon ausgehen, dass das Glas so beschädigt war bevor die Murmel hergestellt wurde. Anders kann ich mir dies nicht erklären.
